Moncada attack commemorated in Santa Clara

26 July 2010

Raul Castro Will Preside Over Main Rally for July 26 Celebrations

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 25 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro will preside over the main rally to commemorate the 57th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons by a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro. The rally is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning at the Ernesto Che Guevara Square in Santa Clara,
central province of Villa Clara.

Present will be revolutionaries who participated in the attack against the two military barracks and others who came from Mexico in 1956 aboard the Granma yacht accompanying Fidel and Raul Castro to continue the struggle against Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship.

The leadership of the Cuban Communist Party decided to dedicate the celebration this year to Latin American independence hero Simon Bolivar and to the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the independence struggles in Latin America.

The rally will be broadcast live by Cuban radio and television.
