January 2008 tbc
Be more than a tourist on an island of incredible beauty, immense
cultural diversity and unique social history.
The International Work Brigade consists of groups from the solidarity
organisations of several European countries. Members of the Brigade
spend three weeks near Havana as a ‘Brigadista’, working
and socialising with Cubans and people from all across Europe. It is
a unique opportunity to experience the Cuban Revolution firsthand and
show that Cuba is not alone.
- See the real Cuba
- Learn to salsa
- Try authentic Cuban rum
Brigadistas also take part in a full programme of activities including
educational and political events plus visits to hospitals and schools
to see for yourself the successes of the Revolution. Entertainment
is provided at the camp with live bands and dance lessons, whilst excursions
to some of Cuba’s fantastic beaches and places of interest are
organised.
- Learn Spanish
- Visit museums, galleries and beaches
- Get involved in a range of cultural activities
- See and discuss the Cuban political system
The cost of the trip will be around £900, this includes flights,
all accommodation costs and food, Brigadistas need to be members of
CSC (you can join when you apply).
CSC organises two Brigades a year, one in the Summer and one in the
Winter. A preparation day takes place before you leave, this gives
you the opportunity to meet Brigadistas, both old and new, to share
experiences of Brigade life and ask any questions you may have.
Summer 2008
The 2008 Summer Brigade will last for 17 nights at the
Brigade camp, you then have a choice of travelling by yourself and
arranging your own accommodation for the rest of your stay or taking
up a CSC special offer and stay for 3 nights at the fantastic Hotel
Vedado, overlooking the world famous Malecon, for only an extra £50.
This is a great opportunity to get to travel around Cuba, particularly
if you would like to extend your stay and visit as much of this unique
island as possible.
If you wish to apply for a place on the Brigade either download the
application form or send an SAE to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, c/o
UNITE Woodberry, 218 Green Lanes, London, N4 2HB.
