Latin America 2005 - a wonderful success |
||
Over 300 people attended the national conference Latin America 2005 where they heard from a range of speakers including Tariq Ali, Olga Salanueva (Cuba), Carlos Polanco (Venezuela), Richard Gott, John Crabtree, Tony Benn, Jenny Pearce, and Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn.
The conference began with messages of support delivered by the ambassadors of the Republic of Cuba and of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In the opening session Tariq Ali spoke of his recent visits to Caracas and Havana “The two countries in Latin America which offer a model to the rest of that continent and the rest of the world are Venezuela and Cuba.....Infact today Cuba is just an oasis in these neoliberal times”
Jeremy Corbyn spoke passionately about recent developments “What’s going on in Latin America at this present time is inspirational." He also praised the achievements of the Cuban Revolution “the best standard of life in the whole continent is actually that of the people of Cuba”
“we need to ensure that the postbag of the prosecutor is full of letters protesting about the case......I’d like to give you on behalf of our family and all the family members our gratitude for your interest in the case. Just as for you, for them solidarity is very important.”
"I think that at some point in the forseeable future we are going to be able to celebrate the release of the Miami 5. Because of the strength of the campaign, the legal case behind the campaign and the logic behind the campaign. I think that we should pay tribute to all those who have got us this far in that process”. For all information on the conference please contact CSC at: 020 7263 6452
